A Reliable Affordable Computer for Social Students - Acer Aspire Go 14

By Harmen Batubara

As a law student, the Acer Aspire Go 14 (AMD Ryzen 3 7000 Series), priced around Rp 6 million, is a smart choice for everyday needs like typing lecture notes, online research, or light multitasking. This laptop is designed for budget-friendly use, with the following specifications: **AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series processor** (such as the efficient Ryzen 3 7320U), **8GB LPDDR5 RAM**, **128GB SSD storage**, and **14-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS display**. This makes it lightweight (around 1.46 kg) and portable, perfect for taking to campus.

Performance and Key Specifications

The AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series processor delivers solid performance for basic tasks like browsing, editing Word/PDF documents, or streaming video. With 8GB of RAM, you can open multiple Chrome tabs while running applications like Microsoft Office without excessive lag, although for heavy multitasking (like video editing), it might feel limited—consider upgrading the RAM if possible.

The 128GB SSD is fast for booting Windows 11, but it's not enough space for college files; use cloud storage like Google Drive to save. Overall, this is an efficient laptop for students, with integrated AMD Radeon graphics sufficient for light tasks, and its price of around Rp 6 million makes it competitive with similar Chromebooks.

 Keyboard Comfort

The Acer Aspire Go 14's keyboard is comfortable for extended use, with good key travel (about 1.4 mm) and a full-size layout including a simple numpad. The keys are responsive, not too loud, making it suitable for typing legal essays or lengthy notes without fatigue.

Some users have called it a "great typing experience" due to the solid feedback, although not as premium as on more expensive laptops. The touchpad is also spacious and accurate for navigation, supporting Windows gestures.

Battery Life

The battery is one of this laptop's key strengths, with a 50Wh capacity that can last up to 15-16 hours for light use such as browsing or typing (at medium brightness). In the PCMark 10 test, this AMD Ryzen 3 model lasted around 15 hours and 47 minutes, more than enough for a full day of lectures without plugging in.

The efficiency of the Ryzen 7000 series processor makes it power-efficient, even for long research sessions. However, the battery can drain more quickly (around 8-10 hours) if using heavy applications or at high brightness.

 Screen Quality and Display Comfort

The 14-inch WUXGA IPS display with a 1920x1200 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio provides ample workspace for reading legal documents or split-screen viewing. Colors are quite accurate (100% sRGB on similar models), and the LED backlight is bright enough for indoor use.

Importantly, this screen is **anti-glare** (reduces light reflection), making it comfortable to use in bright spaces like classrooms or cafes without glare—ideal for eyes that often get tired from reading long texts.

However, the viewing angle is limited (not as good as premium OLEDs), so position the laptop directly for optimal results. Overall, the anti-glare coating makes it eye-friendly for daily use.

 Pros and Cons

 - **Pros**: Affordable price, long battery life, lightweight and solid design (fingerprint-resistant matte plastic), full range of ports (USB-A, USB-C, HDMI), and upgradeability in some variants.

 - **Cons**: 128GB storage fills up quickly (add an external SSD), mediocre speakers, and performance not suitable for gaming or heavy editing.

Overall, the Acer Aspire Go 14 is a good choice for students like you—scoring 4/5 for value for money. If your budget allows, check out variants with larger storage.
