By Elf2060    “The Newbie’s Guide to Sell More Books With Less Marketing” by Chris Syme is Book 3 of the ‘SMART Marketing for Authors’ series. The title of this non-fiction self-help book is self-explanatory, and a quick peek at the table of contents shows the way the author starts with the basics and builds on each concept to walk one through the thought processes and actions needed to maximize the results of each step. I love the straightforward and simple language that reminds one to work within one’s budget and have realistic expectations. Even better, research studies are liberally cited to back up the sometimes eye-opening premises such as the effectiveness or lack thereof of certain types of social media. There are very nice bonuses, such as the online course that is included, the reference sites that are given, and, above all, the encouragement offered.

There are excellent take-away messages that are clearly laid out, for those at various stages of tech savvy and authorship, and I can’t imagine anyone not finding this to be a valuable resource. I am fascinated to compare the advice given with the interactions I have as a reader and find how nicely it dovetails with my own experiences. Truly, presenting an excellent product then forming a connection with a reader that converts him or her into a loyal follower is great advice, and this book gives a blueprint that will aid one in achieving that goal.

By Rob Natiuk   After reading this book, and now on an exciting journey to put it into practice, I can again be an writer! I know I don’t have to get overly involved in marketing – just keep it simple and effective. I have an excellent “teacher” for that – the author Chris Syme. She knows HOW to do it – and most important, HOW to inspire and teach other writers. Even “old-timers” can learn and benefit from many of her techniques for successful book marketing. And I believe marketers in other creative fields, not just writing, can benefit from the practical experience this book shares.
I’m thrilled to learn her three strategies to sell more books. This can be personalized for me with my skills, money, time, resources and desires. There are dozens of channels to market our books to—but the question is, Which one or few are most profitable? That’s a WOW chapter. It’s not so much as writing more books, blogging, using social media, but targeting the few platforms that returns the most and fit my personality.  This author is skilled and disciplined – no rambling or cuteness. Straight to the proven facts, all that has worked well for her. She is a PROFESSIONAL!
For such a small investment, you get this book worth more than some of the marketing courses I’ve taken for hundreds of dollars. Most of those tell us to build a large mailing list. But this book shows how to do it with least effort and best results. You can also tune in to much in-depth websites and courses, much of it free or very little cost. I’m looking forward to such a course mentioned in this book – how to develop a customized marketing plan for yourself. You can also benefit from the author’s Facebook group. That makes me feel part of a writing group that is reaching for the same goal as I am – and having fun at it! YES, to miss out on this book likely means a longer journey to success than is necessary. I highly recommend it.

By Anne Janzeron  The online world is filled with book marketing advice. Here are three things that differentiate this book from the crowd - and earn it a place on your bookshelf.
1. Simplicity – the book focuses on the essentials, and those essentials are grounded in sound marketing strategy.
2. Strategy based on where you are right now. If you want instant, overnight success, good luck. Everyone else - use this book to start where you are and build.
3. A focus on the entire customer journey, from discovery (before the sale) and loyalty (after the sale).
I highly recommend this book for any author trying to get their head around book marketing.
By Stephen Mcdanielon  A very good, albeit brief, guide to modern marketing for indie authors. Syme is clear, succinct, and obviously knows what she is talking about. As with many such books, this one is somewhat general in content and not meant to be exhaustive in detail. But it certainly lays out the fundamentals well, and gives the new author confidence that he or she can also become a successful marketer. The links provided to a variety of articles and sources are very helpful as well. Perhaps best of all, Syme gives the sales and marketing process a structure that helps produce a usable marketing plan, something that I think many new authors desperately need. I have given it 4 stars rather than 5 simply because it lacks some details that I feel should be included in such a work.

By Heidi Thorneon Unlike many of the book marketing books, I love how Chris emphasizes having one primary channel for connecting with fans and potential readers. I have found this to be a useful strategy for any small business marketing. It's just too exhausting and ineffective to chase every social media stream.
Also, unlike many other books and programs, Chris is clear that differing strategies are required for different levels of authors (newbie, beginner, etc.). I've seen other programs that suggest spending hundreds of dollars on Facebook ads. Yikes! That's out of the range of many new authors.
By Honorée Corder I love ALL of Chris Syme's books and this one is no exception. She provides quality content, with a free companion course, a new or even experienced author can use. We all have limited time, and therefore our marketing efforts have to be directed and intentional. Sell More Books with Less Marketing allows you to make the most of your marketing efforts.
